Michel Sommer,
a Bond Trader for 20+ years, has always had a tie to the food industry, international markets, and finances. The Son of a Food Broker, grandson to a Citrus Farmer and great grandson to a Confectioner, he fell in love with Spain after living and studying in Andalusia over a 5 year period. Michel became fluent in Spanish and was “adopted” by a Spanish family. After returning to the US, Miguelito, as he is called by his family in Spain, continued to maintain his relationship with his Spanish Family and returned almost every year to visit. From the beginning, Michel immersed himself in the Andalusia culture and developed a deep respect and love for the most iconic and beloved product of Andalusia, their olive oil.
Camila Israel,
an environmental consultant for 20+ years, was born in Venezuela to Colombian parents. Camila followed in her father’s footsteps and obtained a degree in chemical engineering. As an engineer, Camila worked in the family business in Colombia importing and exporting products for food formulation and managed approximately 100 people in the packing division of the company. In 2020, Camila emigrated to the US. Traveling across Spain Camila feels at home, with a deep connection with the land. She celebrates and respects the hands that till and harvest the land. The oil industry is not foreign to her, during the time her family resided in Venezuela, her father designed and managed the refinery plant of one of the largest edible oil companies in the country.
Together, with passion for the Olive Oil Business, Camila and Michel are leading the operation of M.L.Sommer and have championed the journey of bringing, Picualia, a high quality extra virgin olive oil to the Americas.
